Body:
A special meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Monday, June 9, 2014, in the Village Hall. Mayor Westcott opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Also present were Trustee Blumrick, Trustee Hinkson, Trustee McAvoy, Coordinator Bobbitt, and Clerk Schweigert. Deputy Mayor Conley was absent. The purpose for the meeting was to fill two summer laborer positions for the Public Works Department. Applications were received from David Blumrick and Bradley Bobbitt for the positions. Trustee Blumrick advised that his son has since found employment and withdrew his application. Disclosure: Bradley is the son of Coordinator Bobbitt. Discussed start date and wages. Bradley would start June 10. A motion was made by Trustee Blumrick, and seconded by Trustee Hinkson, to hire Bradley Bobbitt, to start work on June 10, 2014, at a rate of $9 per hour. Work hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or whatever hours Coordinator Bobbitt needs him. Carried, with all present voting aye. The second position is still open. All present were asked to mention this opening to anyone they feel might be interested. Applications will be accepted through 2 pm on Friday, June 13. Based on applications received, a second laborer will be hired at the regularly scheduled meeting on June 16, 2014. Preference will be given to Village residents. Trustee McAvoy brought up an issue that had come to his attention that he felt was disconcerting. He presented information from Patt Fagan regarding the public relations campaign she did for the Village. The contract has run out; however, she has satisfied all of the terms of the contract. He had heard that an individual was saying that Ms. Fagan had a two-year contract with the Village and was not living up to the terms of it. The contract expired July 31, 2013, and Ms. Fagan actually gave the Village more than we paid for, in Trustee McAvoy’s opinion. We should be promoting Ms. Fagan’s business and offer our congratulations on a job well done. Trustee Hinkson voiced her distress at hearing that someone is saying negative things about Ms. Fagan. This was a state grant and wasn’t even residents tax dollars. Grant money runs out. Trustee Blumrick advised that he had spoken to Ms. Fagan last fall about a list of things that FMC could do for the Village but nothing has happened. Clerk Schweigert advised that those items are on the “wish list” that Mayor Westcott has discussed several times with FMC and has mentioned at other Board meetings. Discussed the issue of the bridge attendants going off duty at 6 p.m. Trustee McAvoy found the following information on the Canal website: In addition to the structures listed above, the following lift bridges will operate on demand from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and on a scheduled basis from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm from May 22 to September 10: Medina Lift Bridge Middleport Lift Bridge Gasport Lift Bridge The schedule for openings at these bridges will be posted soon. It would be interesting to determine if boaters will be able to request having the bridge lifted if needed after 6 p.m. There being no other business, a motion was made by Trustee McAvoy, and seconded by Trustee Hinkson, to adjourn. Carried, with all present voting aye. Respectfully submitted, Rebecca A. Schweigert Clerk-Treasurer
