March 24, 2008

A special meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Monday, March 24, 2008, in the Village Hall. Mayor Maedl opened the meeting at 9:00 a.m. Discussed the 2008-2009 budget, specifically the General Fund. Clerk Schweigert made several cuts as instructed. There were also some areas that greater cuts could be made. Overall the increase in spending has dropped from $107,000 to $65,000. Discussed a tax increase. It is obvious that the increase will need to be $1.00 per thousand. Mayor Maedl pointed out that the Board has only raised taxes $1.30 per thousand in the past 8 years. The major increases to this year’s budget are caused by the garbage contract (which will increase up to $35,000 per year), the cost of gasoline and diesel fuel, and health insurance premiums. A motion was made by Trustee Bateman, and seconded by Trustee Kirkpatrick, to accept the preliminary 2008-2009 budget in the amount of $1,629,072.21. The tax rate is set at $9.40 per thousand. Carried. A motion was made by Trustee Kirkpatrick, and seconded by Trustee Sarchia, to have the public hearing regarding the budget on Monday, April 7, 2008, at 7:05 p.m. Carried. There being no further business, a motion was made by Trustee Kirkpatrick and seconded by Trustee Bateman, to adjourn. Carried. Meeting adjourned at 10:35 a.m. Respectfully submitted, Rebecca A. Schweigert Clerk-Treasurer
